“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
― Mary Oliver
How can we we get where we want to go if we don’t have an idea of where it is we want to be?
That is the idea of a vision board. The creation of which gives you an opportunity to sit with and wonder what it is will make you ultimately happy. It also gives you the freedom to be playful and creative. No judges, no right or wrong, just playing with imagery and words, putting them together to represent what it is you would most like to manifest in your life.
The idea of a vision board is to articulate your goals and dreams. Have you dared to dream recently? Have you searched your soul and wondered what are you doing and why, what is it all for? What do I want with this one glorious life I have been given? What will make me happy? What will nourish my soul and fill my spirit with joy and life?
Sometimes we forget. We get weighed down and sucked into the machinations of living, routines of duty that we feel have to be carried out, and we live this life as a tally of shoulds and must do’s. In doing what we believe to be necessary to get through this life we abandon our Soul. So take some time and be with this question….what will make me happy? Look for the clues along the way. When are you at your happiest? What fills you with contentment and joy. Really open yourself up to the grandest imaginings.
How to do it
Be child like, open and honest, without worry for the how’s, just willing yourself to dare to dream. You can google the images you want and print them out, or get a heap of magazines and find what inspires you within. Get a cork notice board and some pins, (You can buy a small one for €5 in an office supplies shop or a euro saver store, and a euro or two for the pins). Cut out your images, write out your key words, or poems of inspiration if you like and pin them to your board. Then place it somewhere you will see it every day, to remind you what it is you really seek in this life. Most of all, enjoy the playful creative process and just let the rest unfold, sometimes just letting ourselves dream of what would make us feel most alive is enough to make things shift within, change our perspective, open parts of ourselves that have long been closed.
If you find it hard to let yourself dream, find it hard to believe you might deserve the life you wish for, then just take time to open up to this aspect of yourself too. Explore it and see where that belief might have it’s roots, what fed it. It may have been a parent, a teacher, friends. We internalise those voices, “oh you’d never be able to do that’ etc. Or sometimes we absorb a whole familial pattern of thoughts. If our parents had little self worth or self belief we generally inherit this by a kind of osmosis
We limit ourselves so much by our own beliefs. So if you find yours are not serving you, see if you can find some way to let go of old negative self limiting beliefs and embrace yourself today as being worthy of all your love and devotion and deserving of all the blessings this life has to offer, and let yourself dream…..
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
― Howard Thurman
